Capacitive touch panel is coated with a material that stores an electrical charge. When the touch panel is touched, it attracts a small amount of electrical charge to the point of contact. Circuits located at each corner of the panel measure the charge and send the information to the controller for processing.

The projected capacitive has higher light transmittance, resolution, service life, and can achieve multi-touch. It is similar to surface capacitive, but compared to surface capacitive technology, PCAP offers two main advantages: In addition to bare fingers, it can be activated with surgical gloves or thin cotton gloves. For some PCAP windows, they can also be operated by users wearing thick gloves and can be sealed to high entry protection levels, making them suitable for challenging or outdoor deployments. PCAP also allows multi-touch activation (simultaneous input of two or more fingers). The projected capacitive screens consist of a glass sheet embedded with a transparent electrode film and an integrated chip that generates a three-dimensional electrostatic field. When a finger touches the screen, the ratio of the current changes and the computer can detect the point of contact.
